This is interesting, in the Bush Outback a nice size gold nugget was found at the end of video (without the use of any metal detector). Gold prospector has 3 children who dowse and is using his daughter to search for a nugget.

Some dowsers only use a single rod, this technique is what found gold in the video. By walking around the signal area, eventually the target can be pinpointed. I've made this illustration, to show how a person can dowse with only one rod while holding a pair of L-rods. Steps to dowse this technique. !. Let both rods hang down first. 2. Lift one rod and hold the other down (helps to use a tight grip on the bend). 3. Walk until your rod starts to swing off to the side. 4. Either walk around the target to pinpoint or go straight until rod swings back the opposite direction. Since both rods are in your hands (recommended) let both hang down, now lift them up to walk until they cross.

Here is an illustration which shows how moving around the target is done.

The video might not always be here, so made screenshots to show finding the gold nugget with the 1 L-rod technique. First, this is what the outback prospecting site looks like. Some rock tailing piles are visible. Must be an old mining site which produced good gold in the past.

Here is the simple one L-rod method, so easy a younger person can do it right. Suddenly the rod slowly begins to turn, then point in the direction of a target. A spot is marked using the feet, where the rod seems to indicate.

The spot marked in the dirt, is approached from the opposite direction and probably past it at least 10-12 feet. Another spot is marked in the dirt, then the process repeated coming at this area from both other cross-directional sides. Now there should be a spot marked each time, reducing the search down to about the size of 3-4 feet. The hard part is to pinpoint the exact location of the nugget, but finally up pops the gold.
